Joe Dickinson

Hi, I'm Joe Dickinson.
I'm a singer/songwriter from Chicago, IL.

I grew up outside of Cleveland, OH, and started playing music at the end of 9th grade, around the year 2000.

It was while getting my undergrad at Arizona State that I really started writing and recording my own songs. I self-released my first album "This Could Be Good" in 2004, and have been writing, recording, and self-releasing ever since.

In 2007 I moved to Chicago to find a place to find work, which I did in various minimum-wage jobs until 2011 when I began working as a primary-grade teacher.

It's not easy, balancing the external demands of work/life with the internal demands of creativity, but I'm working toward a set of sustainable internal systems that will allow me to continue to write, record, and release songs. Hopefully for the rest of my life.

I've always loved and embraced the DIY ethic - both it's advantages and it's limitations. It's fun (terrifying?) to see where creativity leads.

I appreciate you taking the time to listen, and am grateful for you sharing the insane (but also banal? and beautiful?) journey that is life with me.
