This Heirloom and This Memory
Words and music by Joe Dickinson
I'm falling in love with you
I never said I wanted to
But now I'm in too deep
I'm going back to sleep
Soldiers swirl in my head
They tell me that they wish they weren't dead
And I say yes I wish that too
Then I hand the soldier the laces of my shoe
Confidence and hope are key
There's nothing that they'll give us for free
Except a little more load on our back
Though I'm not sure it's really them that gave us all that
The careless lovely life of the breeze
Reminds us that existence is a tease
Here and then gone so fast
Only this heirloom and this memory will last
