Oh, To Go Outside…
By Joe Dickinson
The lamp is leaping,
Frogs are barking –
Like simple soldiers
Sent
Into the dark, dark night.
I myself am amazed –
The dripping has exploded,
Arms upon arms
Of shattered dreams,
Or even just plans.
Standing is a feat to me –
I lay, otherwise,
Alarmed and alerted to the fact
That the body
Belonging to me
Has not budged
All day.
What’s the use?
All I see is abuse
And destruction,
Sadness, loneliness.
I feel it too.
Glance from face to face
And you might see it,
Lurking under eyes, or
Hiding under hearts.
